It has been told that the suzume odori (sparrow dance) was first performed during the Edo Period at a banquet celebrating the construction of the castle in Sendai. A group of stone masons from Sakai City did this impromptu dance. The dance resembled sparrows and thus the name “suzume odori” was given. Our group Miyagi Univ. Kosuzume enjoy dancing the “suzume odori” and want to share this love with people all over the world. We dance with folding fans. Please enjoy our traditional suzume odori!
