The Saitama Ryujin Festival Association aims for the development of the local community through the symbol of Saitama City, the “Ryujin” (Dragon God). The dragon in Saitama City is not a typical dragon but the divine dragon “Ryujin,” which rises to the heavens, providing water and hope.
We have recreated the Ryujin legend that has been handed down among people in a new form, and created the “Shotenryu” as a cultural heritage that Saitama City is proud of. It is the only one in the world that embodies the dragon that soars in the sky. We are deepening local engagement through festival events all over the country.

Saitama Ryujin Matsuri Kai was formed during the year of the Dragon in 2000. Its purpose is to develop a cultural-historical city, where people can feel proud of. Their Shoten-Ryu (rising dragon) is 50m tall which is higher than a traffic light.

Our group Saitama Ryujin Matsuri Kai was organized in 2000, the Year of the Dragon, to develop our town through the revival of our culture and history that we are very proud of. In 2003, in celebration of our appointment as an ordinance-designated city, a consolidated Saitama matsuri called “Saita Matsuri” was organized. And ever since, we have organized festivals with the Shouten Ryu (The Great Ryujin) as the nucleus at various places in Saitama every year. This is our seventh time to participate in the Honolulu Festival since becoming an ordinance-designated city in 2003. Our dragon is over 50 meters long and taller than the traffic light pole! We are a wadaiko (Japanese taiko) team called “Sai no Miyadaiko” from Saitama City.
We participate each year as members of the Saitama Ryujin Matsuri Kai. We have no worries and have a lot of dreams. To perform in the Grand Parade high atop on a truck is unbelievably exciting and inspirational. This will be our sixth time to participate. Since we have new members we will have double the fun and double the excitement. We will also perform on stage for the second time. We will beat our taiko with all our might.
Saitami Ryujin Matsuri Kai takes pride in preserving culture and history in our towns since 2000. With the designation of Saitama as a Municipality in 2003 we have created consolidated festivals such as the “Blooming Festival” as wells as focusing celebrations on the Great Ascending Ryujin (dragon god). This is our fifth consecutive year to participate in the Honolulu Festival. We look forward to performing with the Great Ryujin, standing ten meters tall and 50 meters long, to the beat of our colorful taiko.
Continuing from the last three festivals, we will have an encore appearance by the great Ryujin of Saitama at the grand parade. Please also enjoy the accompanying Japanese taiko performance by the Ayanomiya Taiko.
