Hirosaki Neputa Matsuri is an annual summer festival of huge, paper lanterns. The extremely colorful paintings of the samurai on the lanterns light up the evening skies and the heavy beat of the huge taiko excite the audience and participants. You must come and see our float at the Grand Parade.

Miyagi Univ. Kosuzume
[ Miyagi ]
Our group, Kosuzume, attends Miyagi University. We all love matsuri (festivals) and get together to dance the sparrow dance. It has been told that this dance was first performed in 1603 in Sendai at a banquet held in honor of the reconstruction of the castle. A stone mason from the current Sakai City in Osaka Prefecture did an impromptu dance in front of Masamune Date, the first lord of the Sendai Domain. The dance resembled that of a sparrow being fed and thus we have the name “suzume odori” (sparrow dance). Please enjoy our traditional suzume odori.
We are from Yonezawa City in Yamagata Prefecture. We enjoy the Hawaiian hula. We hope to understand the true meaning of aloha little by little through hula, Hawaii's traditional culture.
