Yomiuri NTV Culture Center Utsunomiya Tomoko Iwahashi Pressed Flower Class [ Tochigi ]

More people in Japan are enjoying the art of oshibana (pressed flowers) in recent years. The level surfaces of the oshibana are only 1-2 millimeters thick and yet it can express the perceptions of depth and distance based on their colors and size. Each work entrusts the thoughts of each artist. The flowers are picked from the fields, from the florists and from our gardens. Japan is blessed with four seasons and we use oshibana from each of them to create our art. We enjoy designing oshibana into sceneries, collages and photos and at times we even press vegetables. We must evaporate and drain the liquid out of the flowers quickly in order to preserve their natural colors. We do not use artificial coloring to preserve its beauty. The colors may fade as the years go by but the changing of the colors is also part of the beauty of oshibana. Please enjoy our works of art.
