Whale Watching

Many Humpback Whales make their home in the waters of Hawaii between November and March each year. There is little in nature that is more spectacular or memorable than an up close encounter with these gentle giants. A number of reputable tour operators offer whale watching cruises of varying prices and lengths of time. The timing of the Honolulu Festival coincides with the whale watching season. March is a perfect time to take advantage of one of these cruises, it will be an experience that you will not soon forget.

An hour relaxing on the waters off of Waikiki is a wonderful way to see the skyline of Honolulu from a much different perspective. There are many catamaran cruises offered right on the beach in Waikiki. Reservations are not required and the cost is most affordable. Cruises usually start from around 9AM and go throughout the day. Our favorite is the sunset cruise which is offered by many of the boat operators. It is a great way to end the afternoon and begin your evening on Oahu.

The Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle

The Hawaiian Green Sea TurtleThe Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle is an endangered species but a species that still is not an uncommon sight in the waters off of Oahu. There are a number of organized tours that are available that enable participants to view the turtles in their natural habitat. But in addition to these tours we recommend a visit to Waikiki either in the early morning or late afternoon. In the early hours of the day as the sun is rising one can stand on the beach and see the heads of these animals bobbing up and down as they surface for air. In the late afternoon just before sunset the same can be done. The beach between the Moana Surfrider and the Halekulani hotels is sure to offer an excellent vantage point to view these graceful and peaceful creatures.
