The Hawaii Music Festivals were held as a segment of the Honolulu Festival. The Hawaii Music Festivals consist of the Hawaii Choral Festival, the Hawaii Band Festival and the Hawaii Cheer and Dance Festival. The schools that participated in this year's Festival came from Hawaii, U.S. Mainland, Canada and Japan.
The event was held on the third floor of the Hawaii Convention Center in three separate venues simultaneously with the 17th Annual Honolulu Festival. It was a treat for regular Honolulu Festival attendees to see different events.
Hawaii Choral Festival
This year's groups for the Hawaii Choral Festival came from California and Hawaii. The atmosphere of the venue was very calm and composed, and yet one could feel a sense of comfortable tension in the air. The beautiful sounds of the low bass and the clear soprano voices blended wonderfully and reverberated throughout the enclosed area.

Hawaii Band Festival
The powerful sounds of brass musical instruments resonated throughout the venue of the Hawaii Band Festival. Many of the bands that participated this year have histories of competing in other events and performing internationally. They were all very talented.
The dignified sounds of the brass instruments were on occasion very light and nimble. It then transformed to sounds of a huge flowing river. It was a very melodious performance.

Hawaii Cheer and Dance Festival
The atmosphere at the Hawaii Cheer and Dance Festival was very different compared to the calmness felt at the Hawaii Choral and Band Festivals. The crowd was animated and their shouts could be heard throughout the event area.
The spectators raised their voices in appreciation of each technique the cheerleaders demonstrated. There were tosses, lifts and tumbling completed by cheerleading groups of all ages, from little girls to those in college. The competition was fierce but you could tell that there was a big difference in the abilities between the little cheerleaders and that of the college students. That actually made the event more exciting. The crowds cheered wholeheartedly for the little ones because they were so cute.
The spectators were just as loud as the cheerleaders, so loud that it felt as if their voices would blow the walls down!
