the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa continues to make a difference in the lives of children and in our community
Despite the news of the slowing economy and its impact to the visitor industry, the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa continues to make a difference in the lives of children and in our community. Global Hyatt Corporation has a worldwide partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, a global organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. With the help of generous donors and more than 36,000 volunteers worldwide, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted the wishes of more than 150,000 children around the world since inception.

For the last couple of years the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa has partnered with Jefferson Elementary. They have done a couple of annual events with Jefferson:

Jump Start's Read for the Record
Jefferson ElementaryThis is a national effort to create awareness about the importance of early childhood education and community involvement and to raise money to fund early education for youth. Through Jump Start's Read for the Record, a national campaign to engage hundreds of thousands of children and adults in an effort to break the world record for the most children reading the same book on the same day. Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa hosted kindergarten and first graders from Jefferson Elementary School and preschoolers from the Waikiki Community Center to participate in a special shared reading experience. As a national corporate sponsor of Jumpstart's Read for the Record, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts donated copies of this years book,Corduroy, to not only Jefferson Elementary School, but also to Waikiki Community Center, Ala Wai Elementary and 2 local libraries. Locally, 10-14 Hyatt employees have gone to Jefferson and read to kindergarten and first graders.

Jefferson's Orthopedic Unit's Christmas Program
For the past 10 years, the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa has partnered with Honolulu Police Department , Waikiki District, in hosting Jefferson's Elementary Orthopedic Class Christmas program which includes lunch, Santa and presents for about 35 students and teachers. Vivian Hee, principal at Jefferson, says that this is the only function that some of these children get to attend, mostly because their disabilities make it too difficult for their families to take them to parties. They look forward to coming to the Hyatt every year.
