Sugo Shishi (Sugo Lion)dance group has been famous since the Edo period known for their leaping techniques. They were honored in 1958 as Gifu Prefecture’s Important Intangible Folk Culture Property. This dance shows the lion dancing boisterously and living wildly in the vast nature. Acrobatic feats include riding on the partner’s shoulders and handstands. It is a very lively and heroic form of lion dance.
