Founded in the Spring of 2008 and incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Fall of 2016, the Tekniqlingz came about through the Tinikling Filipino bamboo dance workshops held by the Katipunan Filipino Club of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. They operate as a traditional and modern Filipino folk dance program which preserves and perpetuates the Filipino American youth culture through creative arts and entertainment.
The Katipunan Club is a co-curricular organization to the University of Hawaii Filipino and Philippine Literature Program. In addition to educating students and members of the program to the Filipino language, the club seeks to promote and perpetuate the Philippine language and culture in Hawaii and the U.S. The Tekniqlingz Crew came about through the Tinikling Workshops held by the Katipunan Club of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. With its foundation based on modernizing traditional Philippine folk dances, the Tekniqlingz are a dance crew in the making which seeks to inspire and influence new innovations to the world of hip-hop and dance.
The UHM Katipunan Club is co curricular to the UH Filipino & Philippine
Literature Program and is comprised of all students currently enrolled in
any of the Philippine Language & Literature Program courses offered at the University of Hawaii. The club and program serves as the premiere
collegiate-based resource center for the creation, preservation, and promotion of Filipino language, literature, and culture in Hawaii.
As for our performance and music: We will be doing one traditional Filipino folk dance either “Tinikling” or “Sakuting”
