The Alaska Native Heritage Center Dancers began in 2001 as part of the after school High School Program. Students connect with their cultures through traditional Alaska Native dance. Members of the Alaska Native Heritage Center Dancers include extremely dedicated and enthusiastic students representing many different Alaska Native cultures. The dancers, dressed in traditional regalia, perform dances from all over Alaska that tell the stories of traditional legends, stories, and lifestyles. The Alaska Native Heritage Center Dancers perform dances from the Inupiaq, Yup’ik, Alutiiq, Unagax and southeast cultures. Today the group is led by Loren Anderson Sugpiaq from Kodiak Island and Mattox Metcalf, St. Lawrence Island Yupik from Savoonga.
