Hawaii’s Community Sports Event: Honolulu Rainbow EKIDEN

Launched in March 2013 as Hawaii’s first amateur runner community relay event, rooted in its Japanese origin and cultural heritage, the Honolulu Rainbow EKIDEN has become a beloved community sports event to both participants and supporters. Due to pandemic restrictions, the event could not be held after 2019, but was successfully revived in March 2024 for its 8th edition. The event drew over 82 teams and more than 700 runners, with a total of approx.1,500 people, including family and friends, gathering at Kapiolani Park. The popular 5km course starts at Kapiolani Park, ascends Diamond Head Road, and features a turnaround point at the lookout with ocean views, allowing participants to fully experience Hawaii’s natural beauty.
