Chinese Chamber of Commerce of HawaiiDance/Performance
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, founded in 1911, is one of the foremost Chinese organizations in Hawaii. Its many members are prominent leaders in Hawaii’s public and private sectors and play important roles in helping develop the State’s economics, social and political future. The mission of the Chinese Chamber is to promote business and economic development, to preserve Chinese culture, and to encourage civic responsibility.
Chinagu Eisa HawaiiDance/Performance
Chinagu Eisa Hawaii is a contemporary Okinawan eisa drumming group whose purpose is to promote and perpetuate the Okinawan culture to younger generations and the local community. We are a very multi-generational group where members range from ages 4 to over 80 years old. Collaborating with sister group in Okinawa, Chinagu Eisa has performed in various locations in the U.S. as well as Okinawa.
SONODA GAKUEN HIGH SCHOOLDance/Performance
We are the Sonoda Gakuen High School from Amagasaki, Hyogo, and this is our 14th time participaring in the Honolulu Festival. This year, about 300 sophomores perform the dance at the Grand Parade they have been practicing for a year. Please enjoy their cheerful and energetic dance!
Laupahoehoe School of Muay Thai Thai Culture Center of HawaiiDance/Performance
Laupahoehoe School of Muay Thai will be showing the intricate and powerful martial art of Muay Thai. It will not only be through the techniques, but through the Wai Kru and Ram Muay.
Gaylord Rieta/Rieta’s Chinese Kempo Karate SchoolDance/Performance
Gaylord Rieta is a singer/entertainer and also a Professor/Grand Master of Chinese Kempo martial arts. He performs Music & Martial Arts from the late 50’s to the present.
Freeman KCC Kokorokara Dance GroupDance/Performance
The students from KCC (Kapi’olani Community College) will perform a dance program that promotes smiles called “Kokorokara Dance” with Minami Sasuga who is a famous dancer and choreographer in Japan. This program is created by her. It is enjoyable, casual, and easy for any age generation.
Ura Tabu Pacific DanceDance/Performance
Ura Tabu Pacific Dance is an Auckland based all female dance troupe. Our vision is to create a unique style that brings forth the raw passion of pacific dance with a contemporary element, allowing audiences to be moved and connected by the universal language of dance.
The members of “Taiwan” are Taiwanese students and local American-Taiwanese. The students attend Brigham Young University, Hawaii Pacific University, Kapiolani Community College, and the University of Hawaii. The locals are artists, doctors, professors, and retirees within the community. In Daoism culture, heaven sends their “som-tie-tzu” – their third princes – to walk on earth and promote peace and harmony. Their third princes dance for you today to bring best wishes to you and help chase way lurking evil. The song and dance you will see performed comes from the (AH-may) Amei tribe, one of the fourteen tribes of Taiwan. They bring you wishes of peace to Waikiki with their song and dance.
