Yasuko Shimizu and Her Fellow Singers

Members of Yasuko Shimizu and Her Fellow Singers perform at various concerts and dinner theaters. We have also hosted over 50 productions of “The Fountain of Angels,” a charity concert promoting the campaign against pediatric cancer for 22 years. We believe that we can reach everyone’s heart through music, and we continue to take part in promoting US-Japan friendship and cultural exchange.

Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko Hawaii

Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko originated in Okinawa in 1982, combining traditional Eisa and Karate forms with contemporary influences and music to create a new and unique taiko style. RMD remains headquartered in Okinawa, however, the club has grown tremendously and now includes chapters all around the world. Our own Hawaii chapter was founded by Akemi Martin-sensei and includes branches on Oahu, Kauai and the Big Island.

Dance Junction Hawaii was established in 2005 and has dancers ages 5-18 who perform various styles of dance such as jazz, lyrical, contemporary, pom and funk. Dance Junction Hawaii has travelled to California, Washington, Texas and Japan for competition and has been awarded several national and internationl titles.

Hello everybody, once again we are Taikokozo. Our mission is for everybody to enjoy the taiko drum. This will be our 9th time to participate at the Honolulu Festival. Please enjoy our powerful taiko drumming performance.


Lau Kaukani

In Hawaiian language, lau means “leaf” and kaukani means “thousand.” We named our hula team Lau Kaukani “thousand leaves” as it is the literal translation of Chiba, our hometown in Japan.

Filcom Banda Kawayan

Music Performance

The Filcom Banda Kawayan is one of two in existence in the United States. Created in October, 2009 with federal grants from the Institute for Museum and Library Services and the Education Through Cultural and Historical Organizations. This inter-generational performing group uses kawayan(bamboo) percussion instruments, and repertoire of Filipino folk songs, contemporary hits and popular dance music.

A Family band that was formed in 2005 in Hawaii. “DNA” stands for Dad, Nick and Alex and yes, it is all in the genes. Original compositions “Discover Aloha with me” and others were featured as the Hawaii Tourism Japan campaign songs since 2008 and quickly become hits in Japan. “Aloha you -Kizuna-” a Japanese song that was featured as the song of the month in April and May on NHK TV program called “Minna no Uta” and has been attracting many fans.

We are independently involved in a wide variety of stage performances throughout Japan. We have decided to come to Honolulu as a one group in order to promote international cultural exchange. We hope to join forces with other groups and continue our various overseas activities in the future.

Wadaiko Mamezakura was formed for the 15th Honolulu Festival. We play creative Taiko with various style of drummer techniques in the worldwide events. Please feel the sounds and vibrations of Taiko while enjoying our Taiko performance.
