The 25th Annual Honolulu Festival Sub-theme has been determined!

We are pleased to announce the sub theme for the 25th Annual Honolulu Festival, “Looking Back to Create the Future: 25 Years of Aloha”. The 25th Annual Honolulu Festival will be held on March 8-10, 2019. Mark your calendar for these dates!

Winners Announced for the 24th Honolulu Festival Art Contest

The 24th Honolulu Festival Art Contest called for entries in August 2017. This contest was open to all the residents of Hawaii, including students. Each artwork was required to incorporate the main theme of the Honolulu Festival “Pacific Harmony” and this year’s sub-theme “Harmony over the Ocean, Journey to Peace”. We received a total of 81 submissions, and they were put into a vote through our Facebook page and judged by the members of the Honolulu Festival Committee. Inspiring Story of Sugihara Chiune -Visas for Life-

The film Persona Non Grata, depicts the life of Chiune Sugihara, who is referred to as the “Japanese Schindler” that saved thousands of Jewish lives from the Nazi persecution during World War II. Despite of it, his fateful decision led to disobeying the Japanese government. The Honolulu Festival is proud to present the life of Chiune Sugihara and the involvement of the Japan Travel Bureau, which led Jewish refugees to escape by ships. We hope to bring light to this important piece of history to promote global peace and harmony. New Year Event! We exhibited Honolulu Festival Booth at the Ohana Festival.

Ohana Festival was held at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai’i on Sunday, January 10th, 2016. A lot of Japanese traditions and cultures were presented in the Ohana Festival, which made it popular even among locals. The guests were able to enjoy the Japanese Taiko (Drum) and dance performance on the stage, as well as various displays and sales of the traditional craft works. Besides these events, many guests also enjoyed the Japanese local specialties, food booths and Sado (tea ceremony) during the festival. The Festival was another great success this year.
