The Honolulu Festival Foundation is committed to making the Festival and educational opportunity for the school children and community of Hawaii. Over the years, two education-oriented events have been carried out, Educational School Tours, Maui Mikoshi Contest and "Share Your Voice" Project.
This year also we are going to carry out those three programs specifically designed to educate the children of the state of Hawaii.
Educational School Tours
Every year, exclusive behind-the-scenes schools tours are offered
to students from around the island. This is a wonderful opportunity
for your students to get a close-up look at Festival exhibits.
Students will also get a chance to meet ant talk with Festival
artisans and performers.
Maui Mikoshi Contest
This is another one of the highlights of the Annual Honolulu Festival. This program had developed exclusively for Maui high school students. Mikoshi are decorative portable floats that are unique to specific prefectures in Japan.
Students of high school
was selected as the overall winner visit
Honolulu during the weekend of the festival and march in the
grand parade showcasing their award winning mikoshi. The winning
mikoshi is displayed at the Hawaii Convention Center over the
Festival weekend.
"Share Your Voice" Project
This project allowed the students of Kapi'olani Community College to experience the Honolulu Festival on their own and have them live stream what was going on from the Honolulu Festival site to the world. It is a great opportunity for students to learn the advanced communication technologies and the importance of understanding each other's culture as well.
