There were various performances taking place at each respective venue by the participating groups from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region including Japan and Hawaii.

“Share Your Voice” Project 2010

The 16th Annual Honolulu Festival hosted a collaboration project with Kapiolani Community College to bond relationships with the volunteers and local communities. [ Read more ]

Maui Mikoshi Design Contest 2010

2010(16th)

Maui High School won the 7th Annual Maui Mikoshi Design Contest out of 3 previous winning schools in Maui including Henry Perrine Baldwin High School, St. Anthony High School and Lahainaluna High School. There were flags of Japan and the State of Hawaii on top of the mikoshi. Also, the design included the illustrations of Hawaiian sea turtle, Japanese carp, Hawaiian hibiscus and Japanese cherry blossom, which nicely incorporated the cultural symbols to depict contrasts between Hawaii and Japan. Furthermore, the wind wave, paddle and surf board were designed on the mikoshi which reminded of Hawaii. Also, there were decorations of lanterns and dragon which were symbolizing Japan. [ See […]

Educational School Tour 2010

The 16th Annual Honolulu Festival finally began on Friday, March 12. The first event was the Educational School Tour, which was held for the local schools at the Hawaii Convention Center. Those students that participated in this event observed the preparation of various performers and exchanged with some of the performing groups from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. They also learned that there are various cultures in the world and experienced them. [ Read more ]
